Polar Bear Cub Sink / Swim 4
Polar Bear Cub Sink / Swim 4
The Sink / Swim, comments on climate change, sea ice loss and the effect on polar bears, polar animals and the polar landscape.
You may have heard the stories of how a mother polar bear, her cub(s) atop her back, must swim greater distances- thanks to climate change- in order to reach the sea ice so necessary to hunt, shelter and travel safely. seals, These trips, are not always successful, and the polar bear cub(s) just simply vanish along the route. And sometimes, the mother does, too.
Apparently, some human babies continue to play as they sink to the bottom of the swimming pool, unaware of the danger. With this in mind, I show the polar bear cub at eye level, under water, but not necessarily in distress. It is up to you to decide the innocence or tragedy of the scene. Who is the viewer? The mother bear, another bear cub, an undersea animal, or one of us? What happens next?
The painting continues around the edges. Certificate of Authenticity supplied.
