As with all my polar bear paintings, this oil on canvas portrait is inspired by the intelligent, beautiful polar bear on its solitary journey through the arctic night.

A long time portrait artist, my polar bear subjects, even if from my imagination, are very real subjects to me!When I paint, I escape into the solitude (without loneliness) of a polar bear world and I hope it inspires the same feelings of mindful escape and polar bear love in you.

A subject looking right is looking towards the future. Although polar bears have been an animal of concern due to climate change, (one of the main reasons I am inspired to paint polar bears) there is good news about them, too. The lights and the stars are ambiguous in meaning. They represent hope, but if we humans are not careful, the starry spirits of this magnificent bear may be all we have to admire in the future.
