As with most of my art, this polar bear painting is inspired by the magnificent polar bear and its vulnerability to climate change. The bear stands strong against the night sky, but the world is cracking around him. I use gold paint to represent the value of nature and the polar bear - what a treasure he is. But both are threatened by our warming planet - represented by the environment cracking around him.

I've created this formal little silhouette portrait and entitled it Antique Bear in fun tribute. As if it were a classical little museum piece (although our polar bear seems to be smiling at this). But, antique stands for so many descriptive words that we certainly don't want used in reference to our polar bear. - especially of "long ago", "antiquity", or "relic".

Although I usually paint in oils, I enjoy working with the mediums available in acrylic paints. This polar bear painting uses gold metallic acrylic paint, crackling medium, and varnish. I love creating the crackling medium as its results so perfectly represent the vulnerability of the polar bear and the environment in which it lives.

This is an 6” h x 12”w x .75” deep acrylic painting on canvas. The edges are painted back with distressing showing gold paint through it. It is wired and ready to hang. It comes with a unique work completion number (wc#) and a Certificate of Authenticity.
