Why the Halo? Polar Bear No. 15 Polar Bear Art Advent Calendar Dec. 15th
Every day a new polar bear painting is added to the Polar Bear Advent Calendar at special value .
Sun Halo 1
The gold in this painting symbolizes the richness of our planet and the power of the sun. Halo-like the sun appears behind this cub. Perhaps, we should be regarding our connection to nature as more holy.
The curvy shape behind this little bear represents the ice on which the polar bear is so dependant upon for survival.
And the pink? Perhaps it is about innocence. But maybe it is that I like pink, and rarely get to use it in my polar bear art :D
The edges of this wood panel are painted gold. My miniature works on panel are designed to stand..
6” x 4” x 1.5 " wood panel.

Everyday, another polar bear painting is revealed in the Advent Calendar at special value

Silver represents the bravery of this arctic knight and the sea ice that is so necessary for his survival.
The beautiful polar bear and its vulnerability due to climate change is the inspiration for all my polar bear art. This wood panel is painted with metallic silver acrylic paint on much of the artwork.
The edges are washed with silver paint over gold, a pretty effect, but a reminder of the power of the sun, and climate change.
These miniature wood panel paintings stand, and I traditionally do not wire them.

Bright in the Night. ©Christine Montague ChristineMontague.com Please see original below for painting without text.
For the 2nd winter in a row, these remarkable female citizen scientists, are inspiring active engagement around the climate crisis because of their stay at Bamsebu , a tiny cabin located in extreme isolation on the Norwegian archipelago of Svalbard, about 78 degrees north of the Arctic Circle.
Right now, and for the next 3 months, they are experiencing the“Polar Night”, 24 hours a day they must navigate their surroundings in complete darkness. Polar bears are their nearest neighbor and they must always be on their guard.
I hope for their sakes, that a polar bear, bright in the night, is never a close as it is in this artwork!
In summation, this is a black and white portrait of a colourful bear. His textured white fur is bright , and his intelligence is, too.

Why is a Polar Bear like a Marshmallow? See Dec. 9 Polar Bear Art Advent Calendar
A marshmallow is a concoction that is both, sweet, solid and soft. I think this perfectly describes a polar bear cub, don’t you? It takes a cold heart to not acknowledge a polar bear cub is pretty darn adorable. Those solid little paws, fluffy, dense fur, bright little coal eyes and nose. Let’s not forget, its intelligence and strength, needed to survive the many challenges ahead.

This little bear is is on a metallic silvery mauve background, keeping the colours cool, and yet warm, re[presenting its youth and innocence, too.

Ghost Bear Baby Makes an Appearance in the Polar Bear Art Advent Calendar
Ghost Bear Baby
Like a spirit, a beautiful polar bear cub appears in the darkness, spotlit by the arctic moon. You don’t need to see every little detail painted to know how thick its insulating coat is, how fluffy its ears, how bright and intelligent are its eyes.
What is this beautiful, intelligent little cub thinking? Is it about to pounce in play? Is it you it is looking at? Where is his mom? Hopefully, not behind you!
All polar bear portraits, no matter the size, are either from my imagination or inspired by photographs I have taken.

Patience is Dec. 6., Day 6 of the Polar Bear Art Advent Calendar
Meet "Patience" Polar Bear ( Golder Bear Series)
Dec. 6th. Day 6. Polar Bear Art Advent Calendar Special Offer
Patience ©Christine Montague Please note: The original painting does not have the date on it.
Mid-October is the start of polar bear season in Canada. Polar bears make their way to the shores of Hudson Bay to patiently wait for the sea ice to form.
In this painting, the polar bear is doing just that. Here it is, in the subarctic night, caught in the spotlight of the northern lights. The tundra, not yet snow covered, sits golden at its feet.
We've all learned to be patient in 2020, held in limbo in our homes, waiting for an end to this pandemic to appear.
By now, I’d like to think the polar bear's patience has been rewarded, the ice is here and our intrepid bear is on its way to whatever it seeks.
This painting is a gentle , golden reminder for us to hang in there for whatever our goals and desires might be. We, too, will be rewarded by patience.
.
As always, the beauty and wonder of the polar bear, the northern lights, the arctic and our wonderful planet inspired this painting. Metallic gold paint and textured mica medium symbolize the wealth nature gives us. The crackled texture of the polar bear’s fur symbolizes vulnerability.
I hope you view these artworks in the Golder Bear Series, as little image treasures, reminders of how wonderful the bigger picture of our planet is.

I think we all can relate to that lying low feeling. We've been in it for the long haul in 2020, haven't we?! In this Golder Bear Series painting, our intrepid polar bear is resting.

Polar Bear Asea With The Stars and The Northern Lights
This round polar bear painting is created as if a portal into a polar bear’s world.
But where you are is up to your imagination. Are you gazing through a submersible’s window at a polar bear afloat in the sea? Or like in a Dr. Who adventure, do you gaze our from your Tardis like box, at a celestial bear?
Whether a a real bear or a spiritual one, in the sea or in the sky, who or what do you think it so calmly observing?
On earth, the polar bear is a star in its own right. Apex predator of the north, highly intelligent, powerful and beautifully adapted for its environment. There is wisdom in the solitary polar bear journey - where energy is reserved for when it is most needed.

Wise Eyes For Troubled Times
In my new series of framed round paintings, I strive to create the illusion of tiny windows or portals to the polar bear’s world. I want you to have the good fortune to look out as a polar bear passes by and for a brief moment for you both to connect. You get to share in its quiet journey through the arctic night and feel the calm of the twinkling stars. Created as the pandemic had us all locked down, these new artworks are meant to offer calm and beauty, and to remind us that there is still wonder in nature.

Remembrance, Strength, Honour, and Polar Bears
In my acrylic helmet painting Strength and Honour, an intelligent, beautiful polar bear stares out from the helmet face. It’s an appealing bear, but there is a reminder to beware, it does have teeth.
To the left side of the helmet, is a group of red poppy badges, a symbol of the honour we owe our veterans, by remembering. Red poppy flowers and their buds, which symbolizes the living honour of the soldiers, grace the right side of the helmet. A chrome metal band circles the helmet, representing the soldiers’ “mettle” and the polar bear’s sea ice life line. The realistic painting of a red sugar maple leaf on the back of the helmet speaks to our Canadian connection.
Read MoreA Sweetheart of a Polar Bear
The sweetness of babies is universal. Whether human, or animal, it seems we are all struck by the cuteness of the young. If you have been fortunate, you will have seen a polar bear cub. They are so cute, playful and funny, it almost hurts! So why, you wonder, does this portrait of a dear little polar bear cub have a baby's breath (gypsophila) flower crown on its head?
Well, the flower crown is a symbol of nature, tribute and celebration. It reminds us that our lives - nature and humanity, are as intwined as the flowers in the crown. ( For another flower crown painting visit here)
The white gypsophila represents the innocence of the young bear, and well, that its English name is “Baby’s Breath” is symbolic in itself. Not only do we want that little bear to keep breathing for many year’s to come, but also it’s a reminder, we all share the airspace here. We are connected, that what is important for the polar bear’s survival is also important to our quality of life, too.
Do you know, that my realistic polar bear paintings are all inspired by the photographs I have personally taken of polar bears? This cub is Juno who was born at The Toronto Zoo. I think she is now at the beautiful Assiniboine Zoo, Winnipeg, Manitoba. I have not exaggerated the fur - it quite naturally formed the shape of a heart!
